It can be frustrating to have a beautiful image ruined by Facebook compression when uploaded. Facebook sometimes makes photos that are pretty sharp appear very blurry after upload. Below I provide a few tips to help your Facebook image uploads have the highest quality.
- Start with an image that is relatively sharp and in focus and at least 1mb in size.
- Resize the image where the longest side is exactly 2048 pixels. This can be done through a mobile phone app download like Photoshop Express or an image resizer app like Photo & Picture Resizer. This will prevent Facebook from resizing the image with its own compression algorithm.
- Once the image is resized, review the image to determine if it appears sharp enough to your liking. Keep in mind when uploading to Facebook your image is likely to lose some sharpness so I usually apply a little extra sharpening via a phone app like Photoshop Express, VSCO, or Snapseed. I find that Photoshop Express and VSCO do a better job of maintaining quality after making changes to an image and saving. Be careful not to overdo it or it will look unrealistic.
- Now your image is ready to upload! If you see after upload that it appears not sharp enough then try again with the original image (not the resized version) and upload again.
*Note: Each time you make changes to a .jpg image and re-save it loses a little quality from the original. So limit the number of times you modify and re-save an image to maintain good quality when uploading your image to Facebook.

Below are the steps I take to improve image quality for uploading pictures on Facebook. In this example I used Photoshop Express mobile app:

Hopefully the steps above help you to have sharper images when uploading to Facebook. Just remember that it is important to start with an image of decent quality if you do these tips should help eliminate loss of image quality when uploading to Facebook.
